Team principal Eric Boullier is optimistic that Raikkonen will race for Lotus next year. The team is pushing for Infinity Racing backup to cover their debt, and it might just be that the Finn and the new title sponsor shook hands to partner Lotus in 2014.
Boullier is certain about Raikkonen staying for next year.
“There is a lot of discussion in the press, most of it is irrelevant. It is all about making Kimi comfortable enough to stay and happy to stay. Part of it is done. He knows the team and the environment. Now it’s about building up the right package. He will then take his decision.”
Latest reports suggest that Infinity Racing is waiting on Raikkonen to sign with Lotus before committing to any sponsorship deals. Meanwhile, Raikkonen is waiting for Infinity Racing to rescue the team from a serious financial crisis before making any decision. According to rumors, the two parties have finally agreed to partner Lotus together in 2014.
Other reports suggest that Raikkonen has already signed with Ferrari, while additional websites link him with a Red Bull deal to partner Sebastian Vettel. Red Bull have confirmed they are negotiating with Raikkonen, while Ferrari have denied any contractual talks.
If Lotus announce the Infinity Racing deal, Raikkonen’s announcement will surely follow. If the deal fails, the Finn is most likely off to a different team next season.
